Dithiophosphates and dithiophosphinates also commonly known as AEROFLOAT are often called promoters . This is because they are usually used together with xanthates. The DTP's are especially suited for sulfide flotation in alkaline circuits when selectivity against iron sulfides is needed.  In primary flotation of Au,PGM, and certain Ni ores additional, often more selective collectors are invariably used along with Xanthate because optimum recoveries are seldom achieved with Xanthate alone. In systems where selectivity between sulfides is the primary driver- for example, in Cu, Cu-Mo and Cu-Au, and complex sulfides- other collectors such as dithiophosphinate, thionocarbamates and DTPs are the primary collectors and xanthate is used only in small amounts as auxiliary collector.

 

 

WHAT IS THE RIGHT COLLECTOR WORTH TO YOU?

 

  • Small replacements of C12-trithiocarbonate  for dithiocarbonate (DTC)/dithiophosphate (DTP) in a reagent suite for the flotation of platinum group metals (PGM) can significantly improve the rejection of gangue leading to improvement in kinetics, grade and recovery of PGMs.

  

  • In combination with xanthate, Dithiophosphates provide remarkable advantage in grade and recovery of the concentrates. Care must be taken when used in conjunction with xanthates in order to maintain the benefits of the improved selectivity of the DTP’s .

 

  • An advantage of Dithiophosphates in comparison to xanthates is their application in acid pH ranges as its more difficult to oxidise.Their stability is much higher, particularly in the region of pH 4.

  

  • In the flotation of noble metals the shorter-chained compounds are preferred. These are generally more selective than xanthates in preventing the flotation of iron sulphides.

  

  •  Dithiophosphates do not develop a lot of froth, and require the use of a conventional frother such as Pine oil or MIBC. 

 

  • Each product has its own frothing characteristic nature. Generally, alkyl DTP’ exhibit little or no frothing characteristic for C2 and C3 carbon chain length. The frothing characteristic of the DTP's increase with increasing carbon chain.

 

Usage and Application procedures 

Kemcore series of collectors supplied in aqueous and can be added neat or diluted up to ten times for ease of metering. The products are also stable in both acid and alkaline circuits. 

 

 Recommended Dosage:

 

5 – 100 grams/ton, added either to the grinding circuit or to the flotation circuit. Stage addition will usually enhance performance.
