We are pleased to offer one of the most widely used activators in flotation of sulphides, copper sulphate pentahydrate.

Our product is of high purity and has been tried and tested in various sphalerite, nickel, copper, galena and other sulphide flotation circuits globally.

Examples of processes which use copper sulphate as a modifier are listed below:

  1. In the flotation of sphalerite, copper sulphate reacts with the surface of sphalerite resulting in increased collector adsorption and improved flotability. Sphalerite is not easily floated by a xanthate because zinc sulphate which would otherwise form is soluble in water and thus wont form hydrophobic film around mineral. To bypass this challenge, copper sulphate which is readily soluble is added with the copper ions reacting with zinc on the sphalerite surface according to the reaction below:

         Cu2+   +   ZnS      ------>       Zn2+  +  CuS

The copper sulphate formed on the surface reacts readily with xanthate forming an insoluble copper xanthate which can then be successfully floated.

This is the basic principle used in all other sulphide flotation systems in which copper sulphate is employed for activation.

  1. Copper sulphate is also used as a depressant of zirconium in the flotation of silicate minerals
  2. In flotation of most sulphides, copper sulphide is used as an activator eg. Nickel, copper, Zinc, Lead and PGM concentrators.

In some processes especially in copper and nickel concentrators, addition of copper sulphate is begun in the mill. This is done to ensure sufficient activation of the sulphides is done well before the pulp reaches the flotation cells.

Features:

  1. In most ores containing Nickel, Lead, PGMs, copper is a bonus element which also needs to be recovered. The addition of a copper based chemical as activator is thus not adding an unwanted metal, but one whose recovery method is already engrafted downstream in the process circuit.
  2. Ease of handling and non-toxicity makes use of copper sulphate as a modifier in flotation very attractive
  3. We offer copper sulphate of the highest quality that will take your sulphide flotation process to the next level ensuring all reacting sulphides are sufficiently activated before flotation
